What’s on my TBR pile

Like every good book lover, I have a long list of books that I say I’m going to read but never truly get around to conquering. Some books are recommendations from friends, others from book bloggers and the rest from titles I’ve just stumbled across in day to day life. I add them all to my list with the hopes of one days getting around to them.

Now that I’m back at university my personal reading has taken a bit of a hit, my university readings for class have taken priority and when I do finally get the time to sit down with a book of my choosing I’m too tired to. This means that my TBR pile is increasing rapidly, so before it gets too out of hand, I thought I’d share with you ten books that are currently on my TBR pile. By no means are these in any order, or scale of preference, these are simple ten random books taken from it.

The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials) by Philip Pullman.

This book has been on my to read list since my childhood and for some reason I’ve never quite got round to reading it. I’m hoping that one day I’ll be able to dive into this children’s book and appreciate it as an adult.

Stuff Matters: Exploring the Marvellous Materials That Shape Our Man-Made World by Mark Miodownik

This past year I’ve dived headfirst into the world on non-fiction literature. Part of me believes it’s down to me leaving behind my background in science and replacing it with the ‘arts’. I love seeking out knowledge and as much as my classes fill me with knowledge, they don’t quite itch my need to be surrounded by science and understanding how the world works. Stuff Matters got my attention and seems like it can scratch my nerdy science itch.

The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements by Sam Kean

Wow, what a title huh?

Once again, my love for science drew me to this book. The humour in the title also made me more excited about getting to read this book than some other non-fiction book I’ve come across (because let’s be real, non-fiction can be pretty boring if it isn’t written well).

Only Human (Themis Files #3) by Sylvain Neuvel

Long term readers of this blog will know I’ve been making my way through the Themis Files series. I reviewed the first book, Sleeping Giants earlier on this year and said I’d review the series once I’d finished all three novels and the four short stories that make it up. Once I’ve finished Only Human, I know I’ll fly through the four short stories and get that review up ASAP.

Fable by Adrienne Young

From my understanding this book has only just been released, and I am very excited to get my hands on it. The reading age is possibly closer to teen fiction than young adult, but when have I ever stopped recommended reading age stop me from enjoying a good book?

Talk Like TED: The 9 Public Speaking Secrets of the World’s Top Minds by Carmine Gallo

It’s no secret I LOVE public speaking and have the dream of one day doing a TED talk one day… somehow (though a TEDx talk seems more feasible). This seems like the perfect book to improve my public speaking skill set.

Revenant by Tristan Hughes

I was a little unsure if I should include this book on this because it’s part of my university reading. For one of my modules I have to read this book (by mid-November if I remember correctly). So, whilst this isn’t part of my personal reading, it is on my TBR pile, so I’m including it.

Humble Pi: A Comedy of Maths Errors

Nerdy humour, what more do I have to say?

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

Not going to lie, this isn’t my go-to type of book. However, it has been recommended to me by so many people as soon as I mention I’m doing a degree in writing that I feel like I must read it at some point. It’s been on my TBR for over a year now, but I’m convinced I’ll get around to reading it someday.

The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel A. van der Kolk

Last but certainly not least is The Body Keeps the Score. This book differs from the rest on this list because I’ve tried to read this book twice before however, for one reason or another, I felt I needed to put it down and come back to it when I felt up to approaching the subject matter. One day I’d love to get through this book, but now is not the time. It’s also 443 pages long what’s a tad intimidating.

There we have it, ten books that are on my to be read pile. One day I hope to get through them all, but until that day happens, I’ll just keep adding to the list and watch in horror as it grows ever longer. Do you have any of the same books as me? Or better yet, have you read any of the books that are on my list?

I hope you are all staying safe and I’ll talk to you all in my next post.
