Who’s up for a catch up?

Hello all, long time so no see.

I’ve been looking forward to when I could get back to blogging and chatting to you all. Since coming back off my holiday things have been a bit intense and finding the time and energy to write has proved harder than expected. However, I’m effectively unable to stand today, let alone walk, because of my feet so I’m trying to make the most of it by sitting down at my desk and writing. I’m a tad unsure what to talk about but I’m confident we’ll come up with something. I have my favorite film, Cirque Du Soleil worlds away, playing on my other monitor and a cup of coffee to my right so I’m going to get very sidetracked while writing today.

Seeing as I’ve been away for a few weeks I’m thinking today could be more of a catch-up post. I’m classing it as one of my coffee shop chats even though I’m not physically in a coffee shop right now but I’m sure you can forgive me for that.

First time abroad

If you read my last post then you’ll know I went abroad for the first time and spent a week at Universal Studio in Orlando, Florida. In 7 days I spent a total of 16 hours in a plane and walked 73Km (hence why I’m suffering so badly with feet all these weeks later). It was a once in a life time holiday and I loved every second of it.

We visited so many incredible places like the Kennedy Space center and even went on an air boat tour where I got to see bald eagles and alligators. I also mad ethe most of my food freedom and thoroughly enjoyed American food.

I broke up with social media

Another notable thing that’s happened whilst I was away is that I logged out of all social media for just under two weeks.

This was a very deliberate move on my behalf. After getting back after holiday I came to the realization that I’d be off to university soon and it threw me. Mix in other outside factors and things going on in my private life and I slipped into a spectacular depressive episode. Can’t say for certain if I’m 100% out of it but I’m having more good moments than bad so I’m trying to look positively.

The first few days were interesting, I didn’t know what to do on my breaks at work as I’d deleted all the apps off my phone. Instead of scrolling mindlessly through my lunch break, I spoke to my work colleagues and just relaxed. I didn’t reaslise how much social media was such a bad influence in my life until I’d spent time away from it all together. Sure, I missed opportunitys for my blog and my engagement has gone down, but what are numbers in comparison to my heal and well being.

I’m slowly going back online more, but I’m not having the apps installed on my phone. I don’t want any of my accounts to be easily accessible and I waste too much time mindlessly scrolling and wasting my day. My creativity also had a massive boost by the end of the first week, what I never expected to happen. Without the comparison of other people in the same field of me, I wasn’t worried about having bad ideas. I ran with what my head came up with and I’m proud of what I’ve achived in these two weeks creativity wise.

I updated my Ko-Fi page and I need your help!

With University on it’s way I made the decision last month to set up a Ko-Fi page for my blog. Ko-Fi pages are great for bloggers and other creatives as it gives our audience a simple one off way to support our work. I follow so many other creatives but am never able to consistently support them on the likes of Patron as you sign up for monthly plans. Ko-Fi allows you to support me by buying me a ‘coffee’ what is a £3 donation (the equivalent of a coffee).

I haven’t been promoting my page all that much as it was rather incomplete and I want to invest in it more so you will get something out of it when you support my work. This is where I need your help.

You have the option to set up a goal on your account. So say if I was saving for a new laptop as mine had broken and I wasn’t able to write my posts, I could set up a goal on my page and every £3 that was donated would go towards a new laptop. I really like the goal set up as it allows the donations to better my work. I’m yet to set up a goal as I wanted to ask you guys what you’d like to see from me first. Have a read bellow and let me know in the comments if you want to see any of these from me on my Ko-Fi page.

Goal reward ideas

  1. Podcast series- Once I’ve reached a goal I will take my blog from words on a page to another form of media. I’m thinking I can start a podcast series on ko-fi and upload a new episode every time I reach a goal.
  2. Vlog series- The other option is instead of podcasts I could do a more vlog style post and sit in front of my camera and talk chat to you all through that. I have no intentions at the moment of ever going down the YouTube route, meaning it would only be available on ko-fi once I’ve reached those goals, so this would be a great way of creating a more personal experience of me talking to you all.
  3. You chose my next post- I can create a poll of post ideas and you guys can decide my next post from those.
  4. Major blog update-  I’d be able to update and upgrade my blog allowing faster turn over of post and better viewing experience for you as my readers.

Give it a think and let me know if there’s anything you’d like to see out of those options. In the meantime you can still support my blog and it’d mean the world to me if you’d like to buy me a coffee. You can find my page here!

These past few weeks have been tough and I know I’ve got a long way to go till I’m back to normal. Though, I’m happy to be back blogging and talking to you all. I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, it’s been a while since I’ve just sat down and chatted to you without a direction for my post. I have a few exciting ideas lined up for upcoming blogs. I want to say thank you for everyone’s kind words on my last post, it was a challenging one to write as I had to be vulnerable with my past, but your kind words made it all worth it.

Look after yourselves guys and I’ll see you soon in my next post.

  1. I would vote for option 2, although so far I’ve never used Ko-fi to send anyone anything. I might give it a try, though 🙂 And I’ve still never been to all the Orlando amusement parks. I always wanted to as a kid, but the year I did all the traveling, I skipped Orlando because those aren’t the kinds of places you go alone. It’s more fun with people.

  2. Thank you so much for this update, Arabella! I was excited to see this post from you! Glad you had such a great time in FL & this makes me want to ditch social media all together too. I’ve really been trying to cut back lately. Have a great rest of your week, girl!

  3. I love a good catch up post!
This reminds me that I really need to take a break from social media! Since I’m on a break between uni and my work placement I’ve spent so much time just scrolling and it’s not been great for me, I know. Maybe I should actually log off them for once ^_^
